Improve Your Smile with Minimal or No-Prep Porcelain Veneers

April 17, 2013

veneersAre you dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile? Are your teeth yellowed, stained or worn? Do you have cracks, chips, or gaps in your smile? Are your teeth crooked, misshaped or misaligned? Any or all of these concerns can be addressed with porcelain veneers from South Shore Dental Care.

Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of high-quality porcelain that are attached to the front of your teeth. This cosmetic dentistry procedure allows us to change the physical appearance of your smile. This is a simple, yet often dramatic, method to improve your smile.

We try to use minimal or no-preparation veneers whenever possible. Traditional porcelain veneers require us to remove some of the tooth structure to accommodate the thickness of the veneers. We prefer to use extremely thin veneer solutions that require little to no removal of tooth structure. This allows us to be conservative with our treatments and keep as much of your existing tooth structure as possible.

We offer Lumineers, DaVinci Veneers, and DURAthins to improve your smile. These are all minimal or no-prep options. The more of your natural tooth structure that remains, the healthier and stronger your teeth are. Also, this gives you the option of removing your veneers in the future.

If you want to improve your smile, porcelain veneers could be a great solution for you. We offer minimal or no-prep solutions as well to make the process even easier. If you want to freshen up your smile, give us a call to see if this could be the right solution for your smile.

At South Shore Dental Care, we’re committed to providing our patients with a wide array of dental services, high-quality cosmetic dentistry, and up to the minute dental technology. Our Massapequa dental office serves patients from Long Island, Merrick, Bellmore, and Wantagh. Call us today to schedule your appointment.

Advantages of Dental Implants

March 20, 2013

Last time, we talked about dental implants and why they’re important for the health of your smile. Today we’re going to compare dental implants to other tooth replacement methods to see why they’re the most effective option to restore the health, appearance and function of your smile. At South Shore Dental Care, we want our patients to be fully informed about all their smile choices.

When people think of replacing missing teeth, their first thought is often dentures. Dentures are a traditional way to help restore function if you’ve lost all or nearly all of your teeth. However, they’re removable, so there’s always the risk of them slipping or coming loose in public.

Crowns and bridges can also be used to replace missing teeth. While these can be sturdier than dentures, they don’t do anything about the missing tooth roots. Your tooth roots are important because without them, you could lose bone from your jaw.

Only dental implants give you a secure fit while creating a replacement tooth root to ensure the health of your jaw bone. Dental implants not only stop any further bone loss, but they can sometimes encourage growth of the jaw bone to replace what has been lost.

What are Dental Implants?

March 6, 2013

If you’re missing a tooth, the health of your smile is at risk until it is repaired. Once you lose a tooth, your risk for losing more teeth increases. Also, your remaining teeth can shift around into the empty space and result in a misaligned bite, and risk losing part of your jaw bone. Dental implants from South Shore Dental Care are a great way to help restore a missing tooth and prevent negative consequences to your smile.

When you have a dental implant, a titanium post will be inserted into your jaw to create the base for your implant. The post will bond with your jaw bone over time, mimicking the root of a natural tooth. A crown will be custom made to resemble your natural teeth and placed on top. At our office, we can both place and restore your dental implants, so you don’t have to go to anyone else.

If you take care of your implant just as you would your natural teeth, with proper brushing, flossing and dental visits, it can last you a long time. We want all our patients to have beautiful, healthy smiles, and dental implants is a great way to do so. If you’re interested or want to know more, call us to schedule your consultation.

Straighten Your Smile More Simply With Invisalign

January 16, 2013

As an adult, it can sometimes feel like you’ve missed your chance to have a beautiful, straight smile – after all, you’ve got a professional image to worry about, and traditional metal braces can make it seem like you’re stuck in junior high again. That’s not even taking into account the amount of time they take to make a difference in your smile – years, in most cases. Here at South Shore Dental Care, we’re committed to providing you with better, faster options concerning your dental care. That’s why we’re offering Invisalign at our Massapequa office, a more invisible, comfortable, and effective option for straightening your teeth.

Several benefits, one beautiful outcome

Created from detailed impressions of your teeth, Invisalign uses a series of clear, smooth plastic aligners to straighten teeth. One of the greatest benefits of using Invisalign is that you can easily remove it in order to eat, brush, and floss. No food is off-limits to you, and you’ll be able to keep your teeth cleaner without having to work around pesky brackets and wires.

In addition, your Invisalign braces will fit you comfortably and nearly invisibly, allowing you to avoid the looks and passing judgments that can come with traditional metal braces. What if you want to be sure you won’t have to explain them, though? If you have an important event coming up, like a graduation or wedding, no worries! Just leave your aligners out for a night, allowing you to enjoy all the fun to the fullest.

And best of all, our Massapequa dental team can have your treatment completed in an average of one year – half the time traditional braces usually take. What could be better?

Ring in the New Year with a great deal

If Invisalign seems like a surefire way to make your smile shine, you’re in luck! AACD-Accredited Care in Massapequa, NY

January 2, 2013

Here at South Shore Dental Care in Massapequa, we’ve got big news to share with our patients. Dr. Dory Stutman has passed the last clinical exam needed to become accredited in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (the AACD)! While he still has an oral exam to take before his accreditation is made official, this is big news.

What does that mean, exactly?

Accreditation by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is an important goal for a cosmetic dentist. For one, it shows that he or she has the skills, expertise, and dedication needed to provide his patients with the best care available. In addition, the AACD provides its members with many opportunities to further their dental education, from conferences to an online journal to several opportunities for virtual learning. In the ever-evolving world of dental techniques and procedures, keeping up-to-date with new information is key. Now, Dr. Stutman will have new and more easily available resources open to him, allowing him to continually update his service for you, his patients.

Plus, it isn’t an easy group to become a part of, by any means. In all of Long Island, only three other dentists besides Dr. Stutman are AACD accredited, out of well over 500 practices in business today. In Nassau county, that number narrows down to only one other dentist. Pretty impressive, right?

Congratulations to Dr. Stutman for his accomplishment! Here at South Shore Dental Care in Massapequa, we’d like to remind you that we offer expert cosmetic dental services along with top-notch orthodontic treatment. With the husband-wife team of Drs. Dory and Khalida Stutman, patients will have essentially two dentists consulting on their treatment, resulting in a quicker turnaround time for treatments such as veneers, enamel shaping, and bonding.

We’re ready to bring a smile to your face! Call our office today to schedule your consultation appointment. In addition to Massapequa, we also serve patients from Long Island, Merrick, Bellmore, and Wantagh.
